SUMMARY:Chasing Time (Online; Partner Event)
DESCRIPTION:Join S. Cheryl Kemner and other Franciscans For Earth on Tuesday\, September 8\, 2026\, from 6:30 to 8 pm Central via Zoom\, for a free screening and discussion of the film “Chasing Time”. \n\n\n\nThis 2024 documentary offers a reflective examination of time and mortality as it follows nature photographer James Balog and his team during the final phase of a multi-decade project that has produced more than one million images. \n\n\n\nAfter bringing some of the first and most striking visual evidence of our changing planet to the fore through the groundbreaking study of melting glaciers\, James Balog returns to Iceland to close the last chapter of his life’s work\, the Extreme Ice Survey. This project was launched in 2006 to record the effects of global warming using dozens of time-lapse cameras placed at glacier sites around the world. It has documented significant ice loss and glacier collapse. The documentary also highlights Balog’s ongoing research into the connections between melting ice\, wildfires\, and atmospheric change\, while reflecting on the personal meaning of his decades long work. \n\n\n\nThe documentary reunites Balog with the Emmy Award-winning team behind Chasing Ice and is directed by the first-time filmmaker Sarah Keo and Jeff Orlowski. It was shortlisted for the Best Documentary Short Film at the 98th Academy Awards. \n\n\n\nClick here to register.

SUMMARY:Cry of the Earth\, Cry of the Poor: A Synodal Conversation (Online; Partner Event)
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by the Franciscan Spiritual Center\, a ministry of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia \n\n\n\nMany of us are carrying deep questions about the environment\, rising energy costs\, the links between climate change and migration\, and the future today’s young people will inherit. This synodal conversation is a chance to bring those concerns into a shared space of prayer\, listening\, and honest dialogue. \n\n\n\nThe Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia invite you to extend the spirit of the Season of Creation by joining Cry of the Earth\, Cry of the Poor: A Synodal Conversation. Together\, we’ll listen to one another and to the voice of the Spirit — hearing and responding to the cries of Sister Mother Earth and of those most vulnerable to the impacts of the ecological crisis. \n\n\n\nThe fruits of this conversation will be shared with the national and global synodal process through the Catholic Climate Covenant\, contributing to a wider Catholic movement of prayer and action in response to the environmental crisis. \n\n\n\nIn this Franciscan Jubilee Year\, as we honor the witness of St. Francis 800 years after his death\, we hold his prayer close: “May the Lord show us what is ours to do.” \n\n\n\nClick here to learn more and register \n\n\n\nIf you live near Philadelphia\, there is an in-person offering of this event on October 15.
