SUMMARY:Pathways of Peace: Food as Relationship—Winter Table Retreat at Prairiewoods (in person)
DESCRIPTION:As we enter into the colder months\, the earth retreats and rests to prepare for a new cycle. We\, too\, need this time of restoration. And while much of the land and its inhabitants slumber\, a few crops including resilient greens (e.g.\, kale\, spinach\, arugula) and root vegetables (e.g.\, turnips\, beets and parsnips) thrive in the cooler temperatures\, assuring a continued abundance of nourishing foods. \n\n\n\nGuided by mystics\, poets and saints\, let’s gather around the table and explore how these winter foods are grown\, ways in which our food choices can support a healthy outlook on winter\, and how eating foods grown locally provides an opportunity to foster peace at personal\, community and global levels. Come reflect on new ways of connecting with how food is grown and why this matters for personal and planetary health. \n\n\n\nAbout the facilitators\n\n\n\nThis overnight retreat at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha) will be facilitated by Christina Campbell and Ann Jackson\, PBVM. \n\n\n\nChristina Campbell\n\n\n\nAssociate Professor in Food Science and Nutrition at Iowa State University and Registered Dietitian Christina Campbell researches prenatal lifestyle choices on the health of mothers and children and the intersection of food and peace. SUMMARY:The Cup of Our Life Retreat at Prairiewoods (in person)
DESCRIPTION:How do you find your cup of life these days? Empty? Overflowing? Somewhere in between? \n\n\n\nCups come in all colors\, styles and sizes\, and we invite you to bring a favorite cup from home as we learn together and experience what it might be like to take time to refill our own cup of life. Focusing on themes found within Joyce Rupp’s book The Cup of our Life: A Guide for Spiritual Growth and using a combination of mediums like journaling\, labyrinth walking\, artistic expression and conversation\, our hope is that you will leave this retreat more aware of who you are and how you might find refreshment in your daily journey. \n\n\n\nParticipants in this overnight retreat at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawtha) will experience a renewed appreciation for the ups and downs of life and head home with tools and tips of renewal to carry on the practice of filling their own cups. If you spend time in your daily routine caring for others\, this retreat will benefit you! This would also be a great gift to the caretakers in your life for a chance to get away and be renewed! \n\n\n\nAbout the facilitator\n\n\n\nPastor Amy Eisenmann currently serves as the pastor at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. Having served in congregations in North Dakota\, South Dakota and Minnesota\, Pastor Amy has a heart for the people of the Midwest and leading retreats and doing outdoor ministry.
