DESCRIPTION:Join the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and other Franciscans For Earth on Tuesday\, March 11\, 2025\, at 6:30 pm Central via Zoom\, for a free screening and discussion of the film “Stewart Udall: The Politics of Beauty.” According to the website\, BullfrogFilms.com\, this 2023 film is about “the life and legacy of unsung hero Stewart Udall\, one of America’s most effective environmentalists in his role as Secretary of the Interior protecting our shared natural heritage and beauty.” The Politics of Beauty examines the trajectory of Udall’s life from his childhood through his Mormon mission\, his World War II service\, his student years at the University of Arizona\, his time in Congress\, and then\, most significantly\, his years as Secretary of the Interior under the Kennedy and Johnson administrations\, focusing on his effectiveness as a dedicated\, bi-partisan public servant. The film introduces us to the early inception of modern environmental politics\, to figures like Aldo Leopold\, Rachel Carson\, and David Brower. Click here to register for the event.

SUMMARY:Q&A Webinar - Franciscans International at the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)
DESCRIPTION:On March 11-21 the world comes together at the United Nations in New York City for the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). The CSW was established in 1946 as a UN body to promote the rights of women and girls throughout the world\, to document the realities that women and girls experience in all parts of the globe\, and to form international standards to empower women and girls and to promote gender equality. \n\n\n\nThis year\, the 69th CSW is dedicated to an evaluation of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in its thirtieth anniversary year. As the Beijing Declaration covers a wide range of matters relating to the rights of women and girls everywhere\, this also relates to the work of many Franciscans throughout the world. \n\n\n\nDuring this year’s CSW a delegation made up of Eileen DeGuire and Rosie Davila of the Franciscan Action Network and Kelly Moltzen\, OFS\, co-chair of the JPIC Commission of the Franciscan Federation (USA)\, will participate with Franciscans International at the events of the conference\, together with Marya Farah\, FI Representative at the UN in New York and Br. James Donegan\, OFM Cap\, Franciscan Liaison Officer. This will provide not only an opportunity to see how the issues of rights for women and girls are addressed on the global stage\, but also the possibility to explore how we could further work together as Franciscan entities and institutions in the promotion of Human Rights and Environmental Justice both in the context of the matters discussed at the CSW and beyond. \n\n\n\nAs a result\, all Franciscans and people connected with Franciscans are invited to join us for a Q&A webinar during this important event on Friday\, March 14 at 2:30pm New York time / 11:30am California time / 7:30pm Geneva time. To participate please click here. We will begin with a general discussion and then take your questions via Zoom. We hope to see you there. Pax et bonum! \n\n\n\nFor more information or with any questions please write to Br. James Donegan\, OFM Cap. at j.donegan@franciscansinternational.org.

SUMMARY:Webinar: "Using Our Power - Nonviolence & Noncooperation in History & Today"
DESCRIPTION:FAN and Pace e Bene are excited to bring you a new webinar: “Using Our Power – Nonviolence & Noncooperation in History & Today” on March 19 at 4 PM ET / 3 PM CT / 2 PM MT / 1 PM PT. Attendance is free\, but we greatly appreciate donations to help defray the costs of holding the event and to support the work of FAN and Pace e Bene. In this important conversation Maria Stephan\, PhD\, coauthor of Why Civil Resistance Works\, and Rivera Sun of Pace e Bene Nonviolence Service will discuss how strategies of noncooperation (such as boycotts\, economic blackouts\, and other forms of civil resistance) have shaped history and continue to empower movements today to defend democracy\, promote justice\, and challenge oppression. Michele Dunne\, OFS will moderate the conversation. Ken Butigan\, Ph.D.\, cofounder of the Catholic Institute for Nonviolence\, will offer reflections on the roots of nonviolent action in the lives of St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi. The power of nonviolence has been a driving force for social change at many points in history and this timely webinar will explore its relevance in today’s struggles. SUMMARY:Webinar: "Eco-grief: Finding Hope Across Generations"
DESCRIPTION:“Eco-grief: Finding Hope Across Generations”: A transformative webinar exploring a spiritual approach to dealing with eco-grief and intergenerational action for our common home. \n\n\n\nAs the climate crisis continues to impact communities worldwide\, many people struggle with eco-grief—the deep emotional and spiritual distress caused by environmental destruction. To address this growing concern\, a coalition of faith-based organizations is hosting a virtual event “Eco-grief: Finding Hope Across Generations” on Thursday\, March 27\, from 6:30-8:00 PM CST. \n\n\n\nThis engaging webinar will feature author and eco-theologian Victoria Loorz\, along with a panel of young climate activists from Catholic Climate Covenant and Franciscan Action Network. Together they will explore the emotional and spiritual toll of climate change while offering pathways to hope and resilience through faith\, advocacy\, and intergenerational solidarity. \n\n\n\nFeatured Speakers: \n\n\n\nVictoria Loorz\, eco-theologian and author of Church of the Wild: How Nature Invites Us into the Sacred\, inspires communities to reconnect with the sacred through nature. As founder of the Wild Church Network\, she reimagines spirituality in harmony with creation. Drawing on her experience as a pastor and environmental advocate\, Victoria addresses eco-grief with faith\, offering hope and healing amid environmental challenges. \n\n\n\nKayla Jacobs is a passionate leader in the Catholic climate movement. As the Program Manager at Catholic Climate Covenant\, she supports Catholic institutions in integrating environmental care into their missions. Kayla brings expertise in advocacy\, youth engagement\, and faith-based solutions to the ecological challenges we face. A dynamic speaker and advocate for Pope Francis’ encyclical\, Laudato Si’\, she inspires individuals and communities to act boldly for climate justice. \n\n\n\nGabriela Martinez is a rising voice in the intersection of faith and environmental justice. Formerly of the Franciscan Action Network\, Gabriela works to amplify the voices of young people in advocating for ecological sustainability and social justice. With a deep commitment to the Franciscan values of care for creation and solidarity with the marginalized\, Gabriela brings a fresh and compelling perspective to the conversation on eco-grief and intergenerational action. \n\n\n\nThe event is organized by the Tri-State Network\, a coalition of congregations of Catholic women religious from Illinois\, Iowa\, and Wisconsin dedicated to peace\, justice\, and spirituality. Participating organizations include: Benet House Retreat Center; Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa; Franciscan Peace Center; Franciscan Spirituality Center; Marywood Franciscan Spirituality Center; Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat Center; Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center; Shalom Spirituality Center; Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary; Sisters of St. Francis\, Dubuque; and Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. \n\n\n\nA $15 suggested donation is encouraged to support future programming.
