SUMMARY:Virtual Series: "Practicing Transformative Nonviolence for Turbulent Times with Nancy Small"
DESCRIPTION:Life is filled with opportunities to practice nonviolence. Practicing it regularly helps to shape a nonviolent heart. Committed people joining together in practicing nonviolence has the power to shape a more nonviolent world. This program will explore the power of nonviolence and examine ways that it actively transforms the lives of individuals and communities. Participants will explore how to practice nonviolence on a personal level and engage in spiritual practices that foster reconciliation and right relationship. The program will explore how nonviolence is writing a new story for our times through the lives of people who embrace it: \n\n\n\nSession 1 – God’s love made visible: exploring the roots and theological foundations of active nonviolence and the spirituality of nonviolence.Session 2 – Practicing nonviolence in your personal life: an ongoing act of conversion toward reconciliation and right relationship.Session 3 – Looking to the future with hope: the transformative power\, potential\, and promise of nonviolence as we move forward\, individually and collectively. \n\n\n\nNancy Small is a seasoned spiritual director\, writer\, retreat leader\, and seeker of peace. She is a former national coordinator and a current Ambassador of Peace with Pax Christi USA\, the national Catholic peace movement. Her book\, Seizing the Nonviolent Moments: Reflections of the Spirituality of Nonviolence Through the Lens of Scripture (Cascade Books\, 2015)\, invites readers to explore nonviolence as a spiritual practice that shapes a nonviolent heart. She serves as the Associate Director for Spiritual Direction Initiatives at the Office of Ignatian Spirituality. She earned her M.Div. from Union Theological Seminary with a concentration in Church and Society. She ministered as a hospice chaplain for twelve years and served for several years as co-leader of spiritual programs and practices with the Kairos Spiritual Life Center in Worcester\, MA. She holds certificates in spiritual direction\, 19th annotation Spiritual Exercises retreat direction\, and Contemplative Clinical Practice. She and her husband\, Carl\, are Oblates of the Benedictine Sisters of Erie\, and they live in Worcester\, MA. \n\n\n\nShalom Spirituality Center is a ministry of the Sisters of Saint Francis in Dubuque\, Iowa. The cost is $25 per person if registering for entire series or $10 per person for an individual session; please register online or by calling 563.582.3592 by noon on Wednesday\, June 11 for the entire series\, or by noon on the day of the individual session which you wish to attend.
