SUMMARY:Virtual Series: "Celebrating the Canticle with St. Bonaventure with Pat Doody\, OSF" (Partner Event)
DESCRIPTION:In this Jubilee year of HOPE\, what inspires us to live in hope? How do we remain hopefully faithful in times of upheaval? St. Francis wrote the beloved Canticle of Creation in 1225\, praising God’s profound goodness present in all God’s creation. St. Bonaventure developed a spiritual theology that enhances our understanding\, prayer\, and reflection on this masterful work. During these evenings\, we will listen to the ancient wisdom of St. Francis and St. Bonaventure and how their wisdom speaks to our contemporary realities of change\, chaos\, and uncertainty. As we commemorate the 800th anniversary of the Canticle of Creation\, as well as the feast day of St. Bonaventure on July 15\, we will share the timeless treasure of their spirituality\, continuing to give us nourishment for today. \n\n\n\nOriginally from Atlanta\, Georgia\, Sr. Pat Doody has been a Sister of St. Francis of Dubuque\, Iowa\, for 39 years. Sr. Pat’s background includes ministry as an English and theology teacher in Catholic high schools in Iowa and Chicago\, parish faith formation director/pastoral associate in multi-cultural parishes in Chicago and Mississippi\, and director of novices for the Third Order Regular Franciscan Common Novitiate in St. Louis. She served as a member of the congregation’s Franciscan Charism team in vocation and formation ministries. She also ministered at Briar Cliff University as vice president for mission and leadership development. She has a Ph.D. in Practical Theology from St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens\, Florida\, an M.Div. from Loyola University\, Chicago\, and an M.Ed. and B.A. from North Georgia College and State University. Sr. Pat currently lives in Alabama\, serving as chaplain and activities coordinator for elderly adults with dementia. \n\n\n\nShalom Spirituality Center is a ministry of the Sisters of Saint Francis in Dubuque\, Iowa. SUMMARY:Webinar: "Eco-grief: Finding Hope Across Generations"
DESCRIPTION:“Eco-grief: Finding Hope Across Generations”: A transformative webinar exploring a spiritual approach to dealing with eco-grief and intergenerational action for our common home. \n\n\n\nAs the climate crisis continues to impact communities worldwide\, many people struggle with eco-grief—the deep emotional and spiritual distress caused by environmental destruction. To address this growing concern\, a coalition of faith-based organizations is hosting a virtual event “Eco-grief: Finding Hope Across Generations” on Thursday\, March 27\, from 6:30-8:00 PM CST. \n\n\n\nThis engaging webinar will feature author and eco-theologian Victoria Loorz\, along with a panel of young climate activists from Catholic Climate Covenant and Franciscan Action Network. Together they will explore the emotional and spiritual toll of climate change while offering pathways to hope and resilience through faith\, advocacy\, and intergenerational solidarity. \n\n\n\nFeatured Speakers: \n\n\n\nVictoria Loorz\, eco-theologian and author of Church of the Wild: How Nature Invites Us into the Sacred\, inspires communities to reconnect with the sacred through nature. As founder of the Wild Church Network\, she reimagines spirituality in harmony with creation. Drawing on her experience as a pastor and environmental advocate\, Victoria addresses eco-grief with faith\, offering hope and healing amid environmental challenges. \n\n\n\nKayla Jacobs is a passionate leader in the Catholic climate movement. As the Program Manager at Catholic Climate Covenant\, she supports Catholic institutions in integrating environmental care into their missions. Kayla brings expertise in advocacy\, youth engagement\, and faith-based solutions to the ecological challenges we face. A dynamic speaker and advocate for Pope Francis’ encyclical\, Laudato Si’\, she inspires individuals and communities to act boldly for climate justice. \n\n\n\nGabriela Martinez is a rising voice in the intersection of faith and environmental justice. Formerly of the Franciscan Action Network\, Gabriela works to amplify the voices of young people in advocating for ecological sustainability and social justice. With a deep commitment to the Franciscan values of care for creation and solidarity with the marginalized\, Gabriela brings a fresh and compelling perspective to the conversation on eco-grief and intergenerational action. \n\n\n\nThe event is organized by the Tri-State Network\, a coalition of congregations of Catholic women religious from Illinois\, Iowa\, and Wisconsin dedicated to peace\, justice\, and spirituality. Participating organizations include: Benet House Retreat Center; Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa; Franciscan Peace Center; Franciscan Spirituality Center; Marywood Franciscan Spirituality Center; Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat Center; Prairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center; Shalom Spirituality Center; Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary; Sisters of St. Francis\, Dubuque; and Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. \n\n\n\nA $15 suggested donation is encouraged to support future programming. SUMMARY:Webinar: "Using Our Power - Nonviolence & Noncooperation in History & Today"
DESCRIPTION:FAN and Pace e Bene are excited to bring you a new webinar: “Using Our Power – Nonviolence & Noncooperation in History & Today” on March 19 at 4 PM ET / 3 PM CT / 2 PM MT / 1 PM PT. Attendance is free\, but we greatly appreciate donations to help defray the costs of holding the event and to support the work of FAN and Pace e Bene. In this important conversation Maria Stephan\, PhD\, coauthor of Why Civil Resistance Works\, and Rivera Sun of Pace e Bene Nonviolence Service will discuss how strategies of noncooperation (such as boycotts\, economic blackouts\, and other forms of civil resistance) have shaped history and continue to empower movements today to defend democracy\, promote justice\, and challenge oppression. Michele Dunne\, OFS will moderate the conversation. Ken Butigan\, Ph.D.\, cofounder of the Catholic Institute for Nonviolence\, will offer reflections on the roots of nonviolent action in the lives of St. Francis and St. Clare of Assisi. SUMMARY:Q&A Webinar - Franciscans International at the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)
DESCRIPTION:On March 11-21 the world comes together at the United Nations in New York City for the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). The CSW was established in 1946 as a UN body to promote the rights of women and girls throughout the world\, to document the realities that women and girls experience in all parts of the globe\, and to form international standards to empower women and girls and to promote gender equality. \n\n\n\nThis year\, the 69th CSW is dedicated to an evaluation of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in its thirtieth anniversary year. As the Beijing Declaration covers a wide range of matters relating to the rights of women and girls everywhere\, this also relates to the work of many Franciscans throughout the world. \n\n\n\nDuring this year’s CSW a delegation made up of Eileen DeGuire and Rosie Davila of the Franciscan Action Network and Kelly Moltzen\, OFS\, co-chair of the JPIC Commission of the Franciscan Federation (USA)\, will participate with Franciscans International at the events of the conference\, together with Marya Farah\, FI Representative at the UN in New York and Br. James Donegan\, OFM Cap\, Franciscan Liaison Officer. This will provide not only an opportunity to see how the issues of rights for women and girls are addressed on the global stage\, but also the possibility to explore how we could further work together as Franciscan entities and institutions in the promotion of Human Rights and Environmental Justice both in the context of the matters discussed at the CSW and beyond. \n\n\n\nAs a result\, all Franciscans and people connected with Franciscans are invited to join us for a Q&A webinar during this important event on Friday\, March 14 at 2:30pm New York time / 11:30am California time / 7:30pm Geneva time. To participate please click here. We will begin with a general discussion and then take your questions via Zoom. We hope to see you there. Pax et bonum! \n\n\n\nFor more information or with any questions please write to Br. James Donegan\, OFM Cap. at j.donegan@franciscansinternational.org.

SUMMARY:Franciscan Federation Virtual Annual Retreat: "Singing a New Canticle: 1225 - 2025"
DESCRIPTION:Francis of Assisi has inspired generations of artists\, poets\, mystics and nature-lovers. He is probably the only Christian saint to be found in local garden shops and hardware stores. What is it about his inclusive vision of all creatures as brothers and sisters that can inspire us today? What clues does he offer that suggest an alternative approach to living in our “Common Home” as Pope Francis has encouraged us to do? Please join us in this celebration of the 800th anniversary of the Canticle along with brothers and sisters from across the country. Registration is open now.

SUMMARY:Franciscan Federation Member Forum
DESCRIPTION:Please mark your calendars and plan to attend the Franciscan Federation Member Forum via Zoom on Saturday\, January 25\, 2025 at 1pm to 4pm ET | noon to 3pm CT | 11am to 2pm MT | 10am to 1pm PT. \n\n\n\nSr. Mary Beth Ingham\, CSJ will give our keynote. Her talk\, “Attending to the Seeds of a Franciscan Future” will address themes pertinent to us today: What are the seeds of a truly Franciscan renewal of the world? In response to the recent Synod\, what Franciscan pathway do we see opening before us? What seeds are sprouting? What is ours to do? \n\n\n\nThe purpose of the special gathering is to celebrate and inspire all of us as we move forward in these days of new beginnings\, transitions\, and a renewal of our charism. Our time together will be one of sharing what the Federation has learned and accomplished and of insight and inspiration for shared leadership as Federation members strive to lead an ever-evolving way of life inspired by the Third Order Regular\, St. Francis\, St. Clare\, and the early lay penitents of Assisi. It will be a time to meet the new board members and to express our deepest gratitude to members of the board departing after years of faithful service. \n\n\n\nThis event is FREE for all members of the Franciscan Federation! Everyone else who is interested but is not a member is also welcome\, for a fee. Click HERE to register!

SUMMARY:Ecological Spirituality: New Horizons for the 21st Century Retreat at Prairiewoods (hybrid)
DESCRIPTION:9 am. – 1 p.m. each day. Come spend the mornings with us as we welcome Diarmuid O’Murchu online from Ireland. Spend the afternoon and evenings in reflection at Prairiewoods or in your own home. \n\n\n\nMost of us are not aware of the fact that we live within the context of a world-view (a way of being in the world and understanding it). Thanks to new scientific insights of the 20th century\, our sense of the world has expanded enormously. \n\n\n\nFor over 50 years now\, we have been inspired by geologian Thomas Berry and others on the pioneering work of the New Universe Story.
