SUMMARY:Vocal Empowerment: Reclaim Your Voice\, Reclaim Your Self Retreat at Prairiewoods (Partner Event)
DESCRIPTION:Take a heart-centered journey into the power of the human voice to express emotion and awaken healing vibrations within \n\n\n\nFriday\, Aug. 22\, 6:30 p.m.–Saturday\, Aug. 23\, 4 p.m. U.S. Central TimePrairiewoods Franciscan Spirituality Center (120 Boyson Road Hiawatha IA 52233) \n\n\n\nClick here to register \n\n\n\nCome to Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha) for a heart-centered journey into the power of the human voice—its ability to express deep emotion\, release fear and awaken healing vibrations within. It’s not just for singers; in fact\, it may be especially meaningful for those who feel hesitant to speak or sing or who have been told they “can’t” or “shouldn’t” use their voice. \n\n\n\nWe’ll begin Friday evening around the campfire (weather permitting)\, sharing stories and songs in a safe\, welcoming space. On Saturday\, we’ll explore how the voice works and experiment with sound and vibration in the body. We’ll reflect on our personal relationships with our voices and then use them in group vocal meditation practice—a powerful alternative to silent meditation\, especially for those navigating grief\, trauma or PTSD. We’ll close with communal singing for healing\, connection and empowerment—lifting our voices together through facilitator Mary Jane Knight’s song-affirmations from her album\, celebrating the dignity and power of our own unique voices. \n\n\n\nCome just for Saturday or join around the campfire and spend the night Friday. The cost of this overnight retreat is $195 and includes sessions\, Friday lodging\, and Saturday breakfast and lunch. The commuter fee is $120 and includes sessions and lunch. \n\n\n\nA non-refundable deposit of $25 is required at registration. (Full payment is required to register online. If you prefer to pay the $25 registration fee now and the balance when you arrive\, please call 319-395-6700.) If you want to stay in a Hermitage\, you also will need to register by phone. If you have dietary restrictions that affect your health\, please list them on the next screen. If you have missed the registration deadline or the retreat is sold out\, please call to be added to the wait list. \n\n\n\nClick here to register \n\n\n\nQuestions? Contact Prairiewoods at www.Prairiewoods.org or 319-395-6700.

SUMMARY:In-Person Retreat: "Hearing and Making Music in Francis' Song of the Creatures"
DESCRIPTION:We celebrate 800 Years of Francis’s Canticle of the Creatures\, the Creatures’ Canticle. Each element sounds praise for being what it’s created to be. The sun shines\, the moon and stars light the night’s sky\, water flows and cleanses\, and the songs go on including those unforgettable human tunes of forgiveness\, bearing adversity and welcoming Sister Death. \n\n\n\nPart I (Thursday\, June 12\, 6:30 pm through Sunday\, June 15\, noon) “Can you hear Creation Sing?”: In Pope Francis’ encyclical\, Laudato Sí (in its own 10th anniversary) envisions a creation intended to delight. We’ll reflect on how the Pope feared we might muddle and distort its song and\, maybe\, help its song be heard. \n\n\n\nPart II (Sunday\, June 15\, 6:30 pm through Wednesday\, June 18\, noon) “Singing Humanity’s Song”: Our Franciscan community\, in its 8th Centennial plan of anniversaries\, celebrates both the Canticle and Laudato Sí: “We are called to face contemporary society and reintroduce ‘the language of [sisterhood and brotherhood] and beauty in our relationship with the world (Laudato Sí 11).'” We have a part to play in Creation’s vibrant orchestra. \n\n\n\nPresenter John Petrikovic\, OFM Cap will be in person at Assisi Heights\, hosting two conferences per day (livestreamed via Zoom)\, at 9:00 am & 3:00 pm\, with Liturgy at 11:00 am. The full schedule will be sent with your registration. Click here for a flyer of this retreat. Click here to download the Registration Form for the retreat. Please register by April 29.

SUMMARY:Retreat: "The Spirituality of Interdependence: Forging Peace by Being Franciscan"
DESCRIPTION:A unique retreat for religious and the laity. Franciscan spirituality is best characterized by its emphasis on relationality. How we relate to one another reveals our deepest values. In our polarized world\, how we express our values has often led to broken or frayed relationships. The Franciscan tradition offers evocative illustrations of both lay and vowed practitioners who forge a spiritual path and deepen their faith through peacemaking. Through cultivating a capacity for presence\, deep listening\, prayer\, and skillful speech\, this retreat uses the Franciscan tradition to develop and practice personal skills grounded in faith that will serve us in rebuilding relationships that matter. We are pleased to offer this program as our annual retreat for religious as well as welcoming our community to attend. Pre-registration required by Thu\, May 29 at 4:00 pm. \n\n\n\nReduced Fee for Religious: Please call 480.948.7460 for religious rates and registration.

SUMMARY:Online Lenten Journey: An Invitation for a Franciscan Contemplative Festival of Calm
DESCRIPTION:This presentation invites you on a journey of deep reflection and spiritual renewal\, exploring the contemplative dimensions of Lent within the Franciscan tradition. We will delve into six key themes\, drawing inspiration from the lives and writings of Franciscan mystics\, illuminating the path to a more profound understanding of faith and transformation. \n\n\n\nMarch 4th: Compassion – Darleen Pryds (FST and Franciscan Media)\n\n\n\nThe Franciscan spirit is rooted in compassion\, a deep understanding and shared experience of the suffering of others and ourselves. St. Francis\, known for his love of all creation\, embraced the suffering of the marginalized and the sick. His example and that of many lay practitioners\, such as Lady Jacoba\, call us to step outside of ourselves and cultivate empathy for those in need\, recognizing the shared humanity that connects us all. \n\n\n\nMarch 11th: Recollection and Reflection – Charlie Brown (The Casa)\n\n\n\nLent is a season of turning inward\, a time to pause and reflect on our lives and our relationship with God. Franciscan mystics like St. Francis of Assisi and St. Clare of Assisi emphasized the importance of solitude and quiet contemplation as pathways to deeper connection with the divine. They understood that true conversion begins with a profound encounter with the truth of our hearts. \n\n\n\nMarch 18th: Forgiveness – Margaret Riley (San Damiano)\n\n\n\nThe Franciscan tradition emphasizes the boundless love and mercy of God\, reflected in the life of Christ. This calls us to extend forgiveness to ourselves and others\, recognizing that we are all flawed and in need of grace. St. Bonaventure\, in his writings\, encourages us to embrace humility and compassion\, acknowledging our own need for forgiveness as a way to open our hearts to the healing power of God’s love. \n\n\n\nMarch 25th: Metanoia – Kathleen Flanagan (Franciscan Ministries)\n\n\n\nMetanoia\, a Greek word for “change of mind\,” lies at the heart of the Lenten journey. It signifies a profound shift in perspective and a turning away from self-centeredness and toward a life of authentic love and service. Franciscan mystics understood that this transformation is not just a superficial change but a radical shift in our understanding of ourselves and our place in the world. \n\n\n\nApril 1st: Penance of the Heart – Michael Cunningham (San Damiano)\n\n\n\nThe Franciscan tradition emphasizes the “penance of the heart\,” a deeper form of repentance that transcends outward acts of self-denial. This involves a transformation of the inner life\, a turning away from sin and embracing a life of love and service. St. Clare\, through her example of poverty and humility\, demonstrated the power of inner transformation that leads to a life of genuine compassion and service. \n\n\n\nApril 8th: Reconciliation – Laura Chun (Mission Integration/Franciscan Ministries/Secular Franciscans)\n\n\n\nLent is a time of reconciliation\, a process of mending broken relationships both with ourselves and with others. The Franciscan mystics emphasized the transformative power of confession and repentance\, seeking to heal wounds and restore wholeness. John Duns Scotus\, a Franciscan philosopher\, emphasized the importance of seeking forgiveness and restoring harmony within the community of faith.

DESCRIPTION:“Eco-grief: Finding Hope Across Generations”: A transformative webinar exploring a spiritual approach to dealing with eco-grief and intergenerational action for our common home. \n\n\n\nAs the climate crisis continues to impact communities worldwide\, many people struggle with eco-grief—the deep emotional and spiritual distress caused by environmental destruction. To address this growing concern\, a coalition of faith-based organizations is hosting a virtual event “Eco-grief: Finding Hope Across Generations” on Thursday\, March 27\, from 6:30-8:00 PM CST. \n\n\n\nThis engaging webinar will feature author and eco-theologian Victoria Loorz\, along with a panel of young climate activists from Catholic Climate Covenant and Franciscan Action Network.

SUMMARY:Q&A Webinar - Franciscans International at the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)
DESCRIPTION:On March 11-21 the world comes together at the United Nations in New York City for the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). The CSW was established in 1946 as a UN body to promote the rights of women and girls throughout the world\, to document the realities that women and girls experience in all parts of the globe\, and to form international standards to empower women and girls and to promote gender equality. \n\n\n\nThis year\, the 69th CSW is dedicated to an evaluation of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in its thirtieth anniversary year. As the Beijing Declaration covers a wide range of matters relating to the rights of women and girls everywhere\, this also relates to the work of many Franciscans throughout the world. \n\n\n\nDuring this year’s CSW a delegation made up of Eileen DeGuire and Rosie Davila of the Franciscan Action Network and Kelly Moltzen\, OFS\, co-chair of the JPIC Commission of the Franciscan Federation (USA)\, will participate with Franciscans International at the events of the conference\, together with Marya Farah\, FI Representative at the UN in New York and Br. James Donegan\, OFM Cap\, Franciscan Liaison Officer. This will provide not only an opportunity to see how the issues of rights for women and girls are addressed on the global stage\, but also the possibility to explore how we could further work together as Franciscan entities and institutions in the promotion of Human Rights and Environmental Justice both in the context of the matters discussed at the CSW and beyond. \n\n\n\nAs a result\, all Franciscans and people connected with Franciscans are invited to join us for a Q&A webinar during this important event on Friday\, March 14 at 2:30pm New York time / 11:30am California time / 7:30pm Geneva time. To participate please click here. We will begin with a general discussion and then take your questions via Zoom. We hope to see you there. Pax et bonum! \n\n\n\nFor more information or with any questions please write to Br. James Donegan\, OFM Cap. at j.donegan@franciscansinternational.org.
