SUMMARY:Q&A Webinar - Franciscans International at the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)
DESCRIPTION:On March 11-21 the world comes together at the United Nations in New York City for the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). The CSW was established in 1946 as a UN body to promote the rights of women and girls throughout the world\, to document the realities that women and girls experience in all parts of the globe\, and to form international standards to empower women and girls and to promote gender equality. \n\n\n\nThis year\, the 69th CSW is dedicated to an evaluation of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action in its thirtieth anniversary year. As the Beijing Declaration covers a wide range of matters relating to the rights of women and girls everywhere\, this also relates to the work of many Franciscans throughout the world. \n\n\n\nDuring this year’s CSW a delegation made up of Eileen DeGuire and Rosie Davila of the Franciscan Action Network and Kelly Moltzen\, OFS\, co-chair of the JPIC Commission of the Franciscan Federation (USA)\, will participate with Franciscans International at the events of the conference\, together with Marya Farah\, FI Representative at the UN in New York and Br. James Donegan\, OFM Cap\, Franciscan Liaison Officer. This will provide not only an opportunity to see how the issues of rights for women and girls are addressed on the global stage\, but also the possibility to explore how we could further work together as Franciscan entities and institutions in the promotion of Human Rights and Environmental Justice both in the context of the matters discussed at the CSW and beyond. \n\n\n\nAs a result\, all Franciscans and people connected with Franciscans are invited to join us for a Q&A webinar during this important event on Friday\, March 14 at 2:30pm New York time / 11:30am California time / 7:30pm Geneva time. To participate please click here. We will begin with a general discussion and then take your questions via Zoom. We hope to see you there. Pax et bonum! \n\n\n\nFor more information or with any questions please write to Br. James Donegan\, OFM Cap. at j.donegan@franciscansinternational.org.

SUMMARY:Online Lenten Journey: An Invitation for a Franciscan Contemplative Festival of Calm
DESCRIPTION:This presentation invites you on a journey of deep reflection and spiritual renewal\, exploring the contemplative dimensions of Lent within the Franciscan tradition. We will delve into six key themes\, drawing inspiration from the lives and writings of Franciscan mystics\, illuminating the path to a more profound understanding of faith and transformation. \n\n\n\nMarch 4th: Compassion – Darleen Pryds (FST and Franciscan Media)\n\n\n\nThe Franciscan spirit is rooted in compassion\, a deep understanding and shared experience of the suffering of others and ourselves. St. Francis\, known for his love of all creation\, embraced the suffering of the marginalized and the sick. His example and that of many lay practitioners\, such as Lady Jacoba\, call us to step outside of ourselves and cultivate empathy for those in need\, recognizing the shared humanity that connects us all. \n\n\n\nMarch 11th: Recollection and Reflection – Charlie Brown (The Casa)\n\n\n\nLent is a season of turning inward\, a time to pause and reflect on our lives and our relationship with God. Franciscan mystics like St. Francis of Assisi and St. Clare of Assisi emphasized the importance of solitude and quiet contemplation as pathways to deeper connection with the divine. They understood that true conversion begins with a profound encounter with the truth of our hearts. \n\n\n\nMarch 18th: Forgiveness – Margaret Riley (San Damiano)\n\n\n\nThe Franciscan tradition emphasizes the boundless love and mercy of God\, reflected in the life of Christ. This calls us to extend forgiveness to ourselves and others\, recognizing that we are all flawed and in need of grace. St. Bonaventure\, in his writings\, encourages us to embrace humility and compassion\, acknowledging our own need for forgiveness as a way to open our hearts to the healing power of God’s love. \n\n\n\nMarch 25th: Metanoia – Kathleen Flanagan (Franciscan Ministries)\n\n\n\nMetanoia\, a Greek word for “change of mind\,” lies at the heart of the Lenten journey. It signifies a profound shift in perspective and a turning away from self-centeredness and toward a life of authentic love and service. Franciscan mystics understood that this transformation is not just a superficial change but a radical shift in our understanding of ourselves and our place in the world. \n\n\n\nApril 1st: Penance of the Heart – Michael Cunningham (San Damiano)\n\n\n\nThe Franciscan tradition emphasizes the “penance of the heart\,” a deeper form of repentance that transcends outward acts of self-denial. This involves a transformation of the inner life\, a turning away from sin and embracing a life of love and service. St. Clare\, through her example of poverty and humility\, demonstrated the power of inner transformation that leads to a life of genuine compassion and service. \n\n\n\nApril 8th: Reconciliation – Laura Chun (Mission Integration/Franciscan Ministries/Secular Franciscans)\n\n\n\nLent is a time of reconciliation\, a process of mending broken relationships both with ourselves and with others. The Franciscan mystics emphasized the transformative power of confession and repentance\, seeking to heal wounds and restore wholeness. John Duns Scotus\, a Franciscan philosopher\, emphasized the importance of seeking forgiveness and restoring harmony within the community of faith.

SUMMARY:Retreat: "Japanese Art of Kintsugi: Embracing Our Imperfections with Grace and Courage"
DESCRIPTION:The Japanese art of Kintsugi takes broken pottery and repairs the cracks with gold. These restored bowls\, formerly considered worthless\, become treasured items of great worth and beauty. During this overnight retreat at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha) we will use this art as a symbol of our spiritual life. Our wounds and failures can easily harden into shame and regret. Yet\, if we look at our lives through the eyes of grace and compassion\, our painful experiences can be transformed into great sources of inspiration\, beauty and wisdom. Facilitated by Jean Pagliaro and Julie Connelly\, this retreat will include time for creative expression\, presentation time\, individual reflection and small-group processing. \n\n\n\nThe cost of this overnight retreat is $225\, which includes sessions\, art supplies\, Friday lodging\, and Saturday breakfast and lunch. The commuter fee is $205\, which includes sessions\, art supplies and Saturday lunch. Click here to register for the retreat.

SUMMARY:Franciscan Federation Virtual Annual Retreat: "Singing a New Canticle: 1225 - 2025"
DESCRIPTION:Francis of Assisi has inspired generations of artists\, poets\, mystics and nature-lovers. He is probably the only Christian saint to be found in local garden shops and hardware stores. What is it about his inclusive vision of all creatures as brothers and sisters that can inspire us today? What clues does he offer that suggest an alternative approach to living in our “Common Home” as Pope Francis has encouraged us to do? Please join us in this celebration of the 800th anniversary of the Canticle along with brothers and sisters from across the country. Registration is open now.
