SUMMARY:Active Hope for All of Creation Retreat at Prairiewoods
DESCRIPTION:Embody our interconnection with all beings through the wisdom of Saint Francis and the Work That Reconnects! In a time where separation and exploitation seem to dominate our relationships with other beings and our planet\, the spiritual and ecological teachings that we are all connected\, that we are all kin\, is balm for our souls. Embodying this knowing is healing for ourselves and for the planet. This retreat at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha) will be facilitated by Work That Reconnects Facilitator Kathleen Rude. Together we will combine the spiritual teaching of Saint Francis\, the patron saint of ecology\, and the transformative wisdom of the Work That Reconnects to explore our interdependence with all life. We will invite fellow species to speak through us in the beloved ceremony\, The Council of All Beings. We will spend time in the woods and prairies to hear what Earth is inviting us to embrace and to receive inspiration and healing for our weary\, overwhelmed hearts and souls. In supportive community\, we will honor our pain for the world\, reconnect to active hope and find clarity around how we can play a part in the healing of our beautiful planet. This retreat includes experiential practices\, mask making\, movement\, inspirational readings and simple rituals. It’s engaging\, invigorating and gives us tools for dealing with the challenges of living in difficult times. The cost of this weekend retreat is $230 and includes sessions\, lodging and all meals. The commuter fee is $180 and includes Saturday lunch and dinner\, and Sunday lunch. For more information or to register\, contact Prairiewoods at www.Prairiewoods.org <http://www.Prairiewoods.org> or 319-395-6700. \n\n\n\nRegistration Information: \n\n\n\nRegister at https://pw.retreatportal.com/calendar/event?programcode=23PGR25315

SUMMARY:Let Justice and Peace Flow
DESCRIPTION:Let’s all join together in prayer to “Let Justice & Peace Flow” during a short evening service in Kirkwood Park. Celebrate the Season of Creation with us in praise and thanksgiving for God’s Creation from 6:30 to 7:30pm on Tuesday\, September 5\, 2023. We will gather at the Walker Lake parking lot and proceed to the lake together. Register at www.fsolph.org/events/ <http://www.fsolph.org/events/> (We do ask that you please sign up with all contact information\, so that we can text you easily in case of inclement weather. This also allows us to send you an email reminder one day and one hour before the event.) The Season of Creation is a time to renew our relationship with our Creator and all creation through celebration\, conversion\, and commitment together. During the Season of Creation\, we join our sisters and brothers in the ecumenical family in prayer and action for our common home. As the people of God\, we must work together on behalf of all Creation\, as part of that mighty river of peace and justice. The theme for 2023 is from Amos 5:24. “Prophet Amos cries out: ‘But let justice roll on like a river\, righteousness like a never-failing stream!’ (Amos 5: 24) and so we are called to join the river of justice and peace\, to take up climate and ecological justice\, and to speak out with and for communities most impacted by climate injustice and the loss of biodiversity.” See https://seasonofcreation.org <https://seasonofcreation.org> for more information about this month of celebration and outreach. \n\n\n\nRegistration Information: \n\n\n\nwww.fsoph.org/events/

SUMMARY:Fr. Tom Hartle's Summer Preached Retreat Week @ Stella Niagara's Center of Renewal
DESCRIPTION:Plan now for an insightful\, meaningful retreat featuring Fr. Tom Hartle’s engaging style as he helps retreatants advance on their own spiritual journeys. This retreat will include daily morning and afternoon conferences\, private reflection and contemplation\, Eucharistic Liturgy\, and more. Consider Fr. Tom’s own words on this unique and timely retreat theme: “We are living in a time and place alien and strange to us. We are ‘immigrants’! We are living permanently in a ‘foreign country’. Our birth country is not the country we find ourselves living in today. Acknowledging this truth\, this reality\, may empower us to move forward with our lives.” \n\n\n\nAdditional words from retreat presenter\, Fr. Tom Hartle\, OFM: “I am a friar of Holy Name Province\, soon to be Our Lady of Guadeloupe Province. Like you\, I too am an immigrant. I speak from my personal experience as I try to inculturate myself into these new and often confusing times. As Dorothy said to Toto\, “Toto\, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.” We have stepped outside of what is considered normal; we have entered a place or circumstance that is unfamiliar and uncomfortable; we find ourselves in a strange situation. Welcome to the new millennium.”(Website: www.stellaniagararetreats.org) \n\n\n\nTo pre-register\, just call the Center of Renewal (716-754-7376\, Ext. 2 or 1)

SUMMARY:The Power of Silence: June Silent Directed Retreat at Prairiewoods
DESCRIPTION:Perhaps you’ve participated for years in Prairiewoods’ Silent Directed Retreats. Or maybe you have seen these advertised and considered scheduling one for yourself\, but aren’t sure what a Silent Directed Retreat is. If you’ve made a silent\, directed retreat\, we welcome you back. If you’ve never made a retreat like this\, we invite you to consider this question: What’s the deepest silence you’ve ever known? Silent Directed Retreats at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha) offer opportunities to enter into deep silence in order to sense what it feels like to awaken a quiet and palpable connection and deepen your relationship with the Source of All being. Each day you will receive ongoing direction as you and a professionally-trained spiritual director listen intentionally to the movement of the Source of All Being in your heart. Listening in such profound silence assists you to get in touch with feelings\, thoughts and actions as you reflect\, meditate\, pray and rest. The practice of this daily meeting assists in developing the capacity to discern\, notice\, sense the movement of the Source of All Being in light of your motivations\, attachments\, responses to that movement within the whole of your life. To share with a professional your divine experiences brings clarity\, deepens your commitment and accountability to the direction of your life\, surprises and offers insight into that direction. This weeklong retreat is guided by Lucille Winnike\, FSPA; Rev. Rose Blank; Kim Seward; Deb Hansen and Ann Jackson\, PBVM. The cost is $495 and includes lodging\, meals and spiritual direction. (Partial scholarships are available.) For more information or to register\, contact Prairiewoods at www.Prairiewoods.org or 319-395-6700. \n\n\n\n\nRegister

SUMMARY:Annual Federation Conference
DESCRIPTION:Last year’s theme\, Hearts on Fire: Journeying Together has prepared us to move outward to welcome many more into the Franciscan Federation fold. This year we will focus on the inclusivity we seek to realize with the theme\, Awaken Joy: There’s Room for You in the Crib. Leaning on the importance of the Franciscan Tradition’s foundation in incarnational spirituality\, we will collectively explore the concept of inclusivity. Specifically\, how the Federation can become a more inclusive and welcoming space for all who identify as Franciscan\, with a particular focus on racial diversity. This will all be within the context of celebrating the 800th anniversary of Greccio\, where Francis was credited with creating the first living nativity in 1223. \n\n\n\n\nInformation and Registration

SUMMARY:Nourish Your Soul: A Retreat for Caregivers & Those Working in Healthcare at Prairiewoods
DESCRIPTION:While healthcare systems\, structures and technologies are evolving frantically\, the people delivering care in hospitals\, clinics\, nursing homes and other settings remain the bedrock of healthcare. Many of these caregivers are depleted and running on empty. There is no more to give. During this overnight retreat at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha)\, Leslie Schwarting will guide us to honor the journey of caregiving and explore spiritual and psychological practices for caregivers to find restoration. Research reflects that three core domains can restore and support individuals when integrated. In this retreat\, we will explore these domains from a spiritual perspective: Coping and Control\, Sense of Purpose and Human Connection. Join other caregivers for a retreat to nourish your soul. The cost of this overnight retreat is $200 and includes sessions\, Friday night lodging\, and Saturday breakfast and lunch. The commuter fee is $150 and includes sessions and Saturday lunch. For more information or to register\, contact Prairiewoods at www.Prairiewoods.org or 319-395-6700. \n\n\n\n\nRegister

SUMMARY:My Octopus Teacher
DESCRIPTION:The Academy-award winning film My Octopus Teacher to be featured May 9 via ZoomThe winner of Best Documentary Feature at 2021’s Academy Awards “My Octopus Teacher\,” will be May’s free FFE Eco-Series event. A special viewing and discussion of the film will take place on Tuesday\, May 9\, 2023\, at 6:30 in the evening Central\, online via Zoom. We learn along with him as a young octopus displays remarkable curiosity and shares the mysteries of her world. Visiting her den and tracking her movements for months on end\, he eventually wins the animal’s trust and they develop this never before seen bond between human and wild animal. Reflecting on her lessons changes his life for the better. Join us for this true story of Craig Foster and his underwater friend\, directed by Pippa Erlich and James Reed.Franciscans For Earth is sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. SUMMARY:The Letter
DESCRIPTION:The documentary on the encyclical\, Laudato Si’ by Pope Francis entitled The Letter\, will be April’s free Franciscan for Earth Eco-Series event. A special viewing and discussion of the film will take place on Tuesday\, April 11\, 2023\, at 6:30 in the evening Central\, via Zoom. In October\, YouTube Originals released this grand documentary telling the story of the encyclical letter and the unfolding ecological emergency. It’s the fruit of a few years of work of Laudato Si’ Movement in partnership with Off the Fence (Oscar-winning producers of My Octopus Teacher) and the Vatican. Pope Francis is the film’s star\, and he generously spent time during the production\, sharing his deep wisdom. Other voices are also featured\, representing the peripheries of the ecological crisis: a teenage youth activist from India\, an indigenous leader from the Amazon\, a climate refugee from Senegal\, and scientists from Hawaii. Be touched by the prophetic stories of Ridhima\, Chief Dada\, Arouna\, and Robin and Greg—all real-life heroes in and outside the film. Their in-person dialogue with the Pope was priceless. As the film powerfully explains\, “the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor are growing increasingly desperate. Droughts\, floods\, wildfires\, hurricanes\, deforestation—they all keep getting worse and worse.” \n\n\n\n\nRegister

SUMMARY:Rooted Emergence: Spiritual Operating Systems 2.0 Retreat at Prairiewoods
DESCRIPTION:We are aware of life emerging\, changing\, and regenerating all around and within us. Our understanding of who “We” are is shifting. Humanity is on the cusp of a new ontology (nature of being) and a spiritual renaissance. Biologically\, we are merged more and more with technology\, truly becoming cybernetic organisms—”cyborgs.” Some are quite comfortable with the merger\, especially those called “digital natives.” What if we were born prior to digital immersion\, struggling to connect with those whose lives flourish in the tech milieu? How do we understand our deeper\, interior selves\, and our evolving relationships? What does spirituality look like in this context? A new “spiritual operating system 2.0” may be required. We are collectively and gradually marking a transition to a “spiritual\, but not religious” world. Our pandemic-era religious gatherings have morphed into pixelated squares on a screen\, our rituals appearing as two-dimensional images without taste\, smell or texture. We are learning to adapt and make meaning in this new context. Maybe our daily meditations come from an email alert. Maybe our rituals are focused on breath and embodied energy\, and our prayer is in rhythm with the changing seasons. Expediency in communication—the text—has supplanted most other forms for daily interaction. Can emojis communicate the depths of loss or the vibrancy of life? How does symbol and metaphor in our relanguaging process help us co-create emerging spiritual meaning? And what about our moral compass in this “post-human” era? What if terms like “the common good” escape us\, but the topic of AI (artificial intelligence) rights enters our ethical consideration? Join facilitators Ellen Bruckner and Laura A. Weber\, Ph.D.\, at Prairiewoods (120 East Boyson Road in Hiawatha) in going deeper into the mystery of rooted emergence\, our journey of interior awareness in today’s complex world. The either-or structure of binary programming may leave us feeling a deep void\, and exhausted from being always “on.” We may feel like we are drowning in a sea of zeros and ones\, without the grayscale\, the nuance of richly varied life experience. It can be felt as an overload to our neurological\, emotional and spiritual selves. How might we remain rooted\, while our spiritual taproots and mycelial networking systems move through the life cycle of composting and regenerating\, garnering nourishment from many new sources? On this weekend odyssey\, we will take a first fierce step. Ready to make the leap? This is “one small step” for each of us\, and “one giant leap” for all of us\, the wider “We.” The cost of this weekend retreat is $230 and includes sessions\, lodging and all meals. The commuter fee is $180 and includes sessions\, Saturday lunch and dinner\, and Sunday lunch. \n\n\n\n\nRegister
