You are invited to a special online celebration of the 800th anniversary of The Canticle of Creation, the first poem written in Italian by Saint Francis of Assisi. Composed between 1224 and 1226, this beloved hymn invites all of creation—sun and moon, wind and water—to praise God.
In this gathering, we’ll hear an edited recording of Sister Briege O’Hare as she shares the story behind her new cantata—composed entirely from the original words of St. Francis’s Canticle of the Creatures. Her reflection offers insight into the quiet discernment and artistic choices that shaped the piece. Afterward, we’ll listen together to the cantata itself: a faithful musical rendering of Francis’s invitation to praise.
