Working for Environmental Justice

October 24, 2023 @ 4:00 pm 5:15 pm EDT

Free

The Franciscan Federation, Franciscan Action Network, and the Order of Friars Minor Holy Name Province JPIC office are working together to raise awareness about and advocate for environmental justice, focusing on communities of color and low wealth that are disproportionately affected by environmental degradation.

We invite you to participate in a series of three webinars in September, October, and November, to listen and learn about situations of ongoing environmental injustice in three distinct regions and practice advocacy at multiple levels.

Join us on October 24, 2023 to hear about the petrochemical Industries in Louisiana. The majority Black residents of the 80+ mile stretch between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, called “Cancer Alley,” are subjected to disproportionately high rates of cancer, respiratory diseases and other health problems from the air and water pollution of 150 oil refineries, plastic plants and petrochemical facilities along the Mississippi River.
