The Joint Committee on Franciscan Unity is offering a free online lecture on August 15 at 4pm EST on the prophetic witness of two remarkable Franciscan women: Angela of Foligno and Ursula de Jesús. The Rev. Dr. Joy Schroeder will lead the session.
Angela of Foligno, a 13th century Third Order Franciscan, wrote about care for the poor and God’s presence in creation. Ursula de Jesús, a 17th century Afro‑Peruvian religious sister in a Poor Clare monastery, received visions that confronted racism in her community and affirmed God’s love for people of all races.
Their stories offer a timeless call to justice and compassion and speak powerfully to the concerns of today’s Christians.
This lecture is free and open to all.
