Description of Role
The Motherhouse Director facilitates the maintenance of a healthy, hospitable living environment for the sisters and guests. Works collaboratively with COO for direction, support, furnishings, and support services of Environmental Services, Nutrition Services, Hospitality, Reception, Archives, Mailroom, Volunteers and St. Clare Library

1) Knows and demonstrates the Franciscan Values while performing all job functions. Demonstrates values with other staff, volunteers, clients, and visitors. Franciscan Values: 1) Respect, 2) Compassion, 3) Hospitality, and 4) Open Communication.
2) Upholds and fulfills the mission and philosophy of Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls in all areas of communications and public relations, whether written, spoken or observed.
3) Works collaboratively with the COO:
a. in long- and short-range planning for the Motherhouse.
b. to promote job safety, to promote job satisfaction and provide ongoing in-service training as appropriate for the various positions.
c. for coordination of major Community events and gatherings.
d. along with Environmental Services Coordinator and Knute Nelson’s Director of Operations to review Emergency Preparation Disaster Procedure Manual.
e. in keeping with established policies regarding use of space and property.
4) Has responsibility for the comfort and well-being of Sisters and the public who come to the Motherhouse.
5) Extends a welcoming presence and Franciscan hospitality to guests and visitors at the Motherhouse and at events on campus.
6) Provides consultation with Sisters Life Services Director and Assistant Community minister to coordinate assistance as needed to Sisters and ministries at times of opening/closing houses/offices or moving from one location to another, both on and off campus.
7) Meets on a regular basis with each department director/supervisor who reports directly to the Motherhouse Director: Environmental Services, Nutrition Services, Hospitality, Reception, Archives, Mailroom, Volunteers and St. Clare Library.
8) Prepares the financial budget for areas of responsibility and approves the departmental budgets of departments which report to the Motherhouse Director.
9) Assists as needed during evenings and weekends for Sister related matters and/or emergencies on campus.
10) Develops and updates policies and procedures for areas of responsibility and those departments reporting to Motherhouse Director. Develops and maintains job descriptions for all positions that report to the Motherhouse Director; and completes annual job performance reviews for all positions reporting to the Motherhouse Director.
11) Provides opportunities for participation by the sisters in decision-making whenever appropriate. Encourages subsidiarity.
12) Works with the Hospitality Manager in coordinating and managing the 18-month calendar.
13) Keeps the Motherhouse Community informed of matters affecting its life and work. Conducts, regular (monthly) Motherhouse Meetings for purposes of information, communication, listening, and discussion related to life at the Motherhouse.
14) Meets on a regular basis with Knute Nelson’s Director of Operations, Sisters Life Services Director, and Sisters Health Coordinator regarding the care of the elderly and ill Sisters on campus.
15) Coordinates arrangements for Sister’s housing at the Motherhouse with the Assistant Community Ministers, Sisters Life Services Director and Knute Nelson’s Director of Operations. This is done in keeping with established policies regarding the use of space.
16) Serves as a member of the Values Committee to enhance the Values at the Motherhouse.
17) Participates in task teams and committees for projects and planning affecting the Motherhouse.
18) Regular attendance and punctuality are essential to the position. Various tasks are required to be completed at specific times.
19) Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience Required

1) Minimum of an undergraduate degree in business administration and/or three to five years’ experience in an administration/ management position preferably in a religious congregation, non-profit or community-based organization.
2) Ability and willingness to work in a collaborative manner.
3) Must have good oral and written communication skills.
4) Accuracy and close attention to details are required. Needs to use independent judgment based upon established policies/ procedures. Must be able to organize and plan details using own initiative.
5) Franciscan spirit of caring for people, particularly the disabled and elderly.
6) Ability and willingness to delegate.
7) Creates friendly, cooperative atmosphere with Sisters, visitors, and personnel.
8) Good physical, mental and emotional health, and stamina to carry out responsibilities. Ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously.
9) Desire and commitment to serve this Franciscan Congregation.
10) Must have preference for working with all types of people. Willing to deal with the public/civic community in a variety of situations.
11) Requires good memory for detail; must be able to deal with interruptions; must be alert and flexible.

Physical Demands: Operate a computer and other office equipment, such as a calculator, copy machine, and printer. The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information. Visual and physical ability to detect, determine, perceive, identify, observe, inspect, assess buildings and property.
