“Singing a New Canticle: 1225-2025”
Francis of Assisi has inspired generations of artists, poets, mystics and nature-lovers. He is probably the only Christian saint to be found in local garden shops and hardware stores. What is it about his inclusive vision of all creatures as brothers and sisters that can inspire us today? What clues does he offer that suggest an alternative approach to living in our “Common Home” as Pope Francis has encouraged us to do? Please join us in this celebration of the 800th anniversary of the Canticle along with brothers and sisters from across the country. Registration opens on November 25.
Our speaker, Br. William Short, OFM will bring his Franciscan wisdom on this special day of reflection and sharing. He is a friar of the Province of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and professor of Christian Spirituality at the Franciscan School of Theology at the University of San Diego in California. He also serves as director of the Collegium S. Bonaventurae, International Center for Franciscan Studies and Research in Rome. With Regis Armstrong OFM Cap and Wayne Hellmann OFM Conv he is an editor of Francis of Assisi: Early Documents and, with Christopher Stace, of Francis of Assisi: The Conformity. He is also an amateur propagator of Mediterranean plants from various parts of the world.
