Position Description

The Young Adult Engagement Coordinator collaborates in developing and implementing ways to invite, accompany, and empower young adults in engaging Franciscan spirituality and values towards personal and social transformation. The coordinator supports mutual, intergenerational relationships among young adults, sisters, and companions as part of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia’s charism ministry team.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Charism Engagement Minister, the Director of Franciscan Companions in Mission, and others to develop and implement creative young adult engagement initiatives expressing our Franciscan charism, spirituality and values in response to contemporary needs; includes reimagining our previous Franciscan Volunteer: No Risk, No Gain program around the values of integral ecology (integrating ecological and social justice), intentional community, contemplative action and the Franciscan theological and spiritual tradition.
  • Coordinates efforts to build relationships with young adults in various ways, including social media, virtual programs, and in-person events and activities. Maintains regular communications with existing and new young adult participants.
  • Becomes and/or stays informed of current trends related to young adult ministry, faith-based service and intentional communities, integral ecology, environmental racism, and the contemporary Franciscan movement’s response to these needs.
  • Collaborates with the Charism Engagement Minister in networking with related organizations such as Franciscan Service Network, Catholic Climate Covenant, Franciscan Intentional Community Network, Catholic Volunteer Network, Franciscan Federation, and local community partners to deepen relationships, exchange ideas, broaden perspectives, and explore opportunities for collaboration.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Experience working with young adults and/or service as a volunteer in a faith-based program (such as Franciscan Volunteers, Franciscan Mission Service, JVC, etc.)
  • Some college credits; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Basic understanding of theology and Catholic Social Teaching; experience with and/or interest in Franciscan spirituality and tradition.
  • Effective interpersonal and collaborative skills, including a welcoming and inclusive manner in relating with others; treats all persons with dignity and respect.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including using social media platforms; competent in using Microsoft Office and Zoom.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively; has leadership potential, including creativity, organizational skills, intercultural competencies and/or critical thinking.
  • Can be flexible with work schedule, including working some evenings and weekends during young adult-related events/activities. Position may be full or part-time, with some remote work negotiable.
  • Current driver’s license: is willing and able to drive and/or travel to attend work-related meetings and events.
