The Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls (FSLF), Minnesota, is a Roman Catholic congregation of religious women of the Third Order of St. Francis of Assisi. Located in the heartland of Minnesota, USA, we number 80 sisters and are joined by over 260 associates. While most of our sisters live and minister in Minnesota, some of us minister in California, Texas, and Wisconsin, as well as Mexico. Our associates are from across the U.S. and Columbia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Nicaragua.

Position Description

Integral Ecology Coordinator, Franciscan Sisters (FSLF), Little Falls, Minnesota, are seeking a professional to join our team full time, 40 hours per week (or depending on candidate, part time a minimum of 30 hours per week).

The Integral Ecology Coordinator works closely with Franciscan sisters, associates, staff, partners, and other entities to facilitate the commitment of FSLF in caring for and seeking right relationship with all peoples, earth and all creation, especially those affected by injustice and exclusion. The Integral Ecology Coordinator affirms and promotes the FSLF Land Ethic.

A 4-year college degree; preferably in ecology or social justice studies. Experience working in social and earth justice required. Experience in or knowledge of eco-spirituality a bonus. Familiarity with Franciscan spirituality and values or willingness to learn. Experienced collaborator; able to enroll others in a vision. Attends with sensitivity to the ecumenical and interfaith elements of this ministry.

Responsibilities

  • • Advance the integration of lived Franciscan eco-spirituality with sisters, associates, staff, partners, and other entities.
  • • Know and demonstrate the four Franciscan employee values in all relationships.
  • • Foster a culture of integral ecology: spiritual, material, economic, and social ecology practices that build and sustain right relationship with all of creation.
  • • Foster a culture of environmental sustainability through ongoing internal and external communications and education.
  • • Collaborate with and motivate FSLF sisters, associates, and staff to further ecological practices on St. Francis campus and in all our affiliate locations.
  • • Initiate dialogue, reflection, and help determine actions that influence public policy change for the common good with sisters and associates.
  • • Assure integral ecology work is visible by coordinating creation of content for FSLF website and social media platforms. Collaborates with FSLF Community Relations Department to secure media coverage of initiatives and efforts of the sisters, associates, and partners to influence policy change.
  • • Collaborate the furtherance of integral ecology values through engagement with partner organizations, including and not limited to: Franciscan Federation, Leadership Conference of Women Religious, Franciscan Action Network, Laudato Si Action Platform, and Nuns and Nones Land Justice.
  • • Facilitate best practices of FSLF ecological and justice initiatives to integrate the work of integral ecology into the sister and global community; including and not limited to leadership and/or accompaniment with: Earth Jubilee Committee, Green Committee, Immigration/Border Committee, and Dream Project.
  • • Core contributing member of the Franciscan Life Circle and Leadership Council.
  • • Prepare and monitor the annual budget and potentially facilitate generating funds to further the work.
  • • Contribute to the effectiveness of the ministry by performing other duties as requested by the supervisor.
  • • All other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • • Has a 4-year college degree; preferably in ecology or social justice studies.
  • • Experience working in social and earth justice required.
  • • Experience in or knowledge of eco-spirituality a bonus.
  • • Familiarity with Franciscan spirituality and values or willingness to learn.
  • • Experienced collaborator; able to enroll others in a vision.
  • • Demonstrates leadership and ability to effectively communicate and work with all individuals.
  • • Demonstrates ability to prioritize work, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, work with interruptions, complete work with minimal supervision, and stay calm under pressure.
  • • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • • Exhibits a collaborative spirit when working with others.
  • • Attends with sensitivity to the ecumenical and interfaith elements of this ministry.
  • • Must be proficient in MS Word, MS Office, MS Outlook, and Windows based PC’s.
  • • Maintains strict confidentiality.
