From the Desk of the Executive Director
We are excited to launch the new newsletter of the Franciscan Federation; The Damiano! Leaning into our Franciscan origin story, The Damiano represents the continuation of the Franciscan story as we embrace change, expand our membership, and collaborate cross-organizationally. The Damiano will be published 6 times a year, with occasional special editions, and will share the latest news from the National Office and various corners of the Federation. Future issues will include updates from our Commissions, highlights of Federation members and their ministries, inspirational writings from various Franciscan voices, and updates from partnering organizations. It is our hope that just as Francis heard the voice of God through the San Damiano cross to rebuild the church, that this effort will help us to collaborate and build the Franciscan movement in our day! – Sara P. Marks, Executive Director
From the Desk of the Associate Director
I am grateful to be in this position that is both new to myself, and also new to the Federation. Sara and I are working hard to bring this organization into the new era, as we complete our final year of transformation. We have so many ideas, dreams, and plans for the year ahead – for both the expanding lay membership, as well as for our vowed religious who have been active members and vital supporters from the beginning. I am so excited to be part of this with all of you! – Eunice J. Park, Associate Director
A Year of Listening & Learning 2024
In 2024, we are holding A Year of Listening & Learning for Federation members to have the opportunity to voice their aspirations and desires for our organization. As our multi-year Transformation Process comes to completion, the National Board and the Staff view the input of our members as being vital to the ongoing growth and development of the Federation. As such, we are holding 6 session throughout the year: 3 in-person gatherings and 3 virtual gatherings.
Included in the April California Listening & Learning registration is a special evening of Franciscan storytelling, networking, and recognitions. Featuring a wine and cheese reception with Dr. Darleen Pryds sharing surprising stories of some early followers of Francis from her book “Women of the Streets,” music and storytelling from the beloved musician Jesse Manibusan, and the beautiful artwork of Jen Norton. We will also be honoring the work of Faithful Fools, an amazing street ministry in the Tenderloin District in San Francisco. This special event is FREE for all participants of the Listening and Learning session, and open to the general public for a fee. Learn more and register for our upcoming sessions here.
