Information about the Organization:The Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls (FSLF), Minnesota, is a Roman Catholic congregation of religious women of the Third Order of St. Francis of Assisi. While most of our sisters live and minister in Minnesota, some of us minister in California, Texas, and Wisconsin, as well as Mexico. Our associates are from across the U.S. and Columbia, Ecuador, Mexico, and Nicaragua.
Position Description:Major Gifts and Planned Giving Coordinator – The Franciscan Sisters, Little Falls, Minnesota, are seeking an enthusiastic, mission-minded individual to manage and expand the organization’s major gifts and planned giving ministry. This person will identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift and planned giving prospects. The individual will work closely with the director of Community Relations to promote the mission and values of the Franciscan Sisters to the public, nurture the existing donor base and develop strategies to foster major and planned gifts.The position is full time, 36-40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, hours vary with occasional evenings and weekends when necessary.Major and Minor Tasks and Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement major gifts strategy in collaboration with CRD staff.
• Develop an understanding of FSLF ministries, programs, initiatives and needs to engage and articulate FSLF mission to major donors.
• Build relationships with new and existing donors through visits, phone calls, letters
• Create innovative, effective major gift proposals, appeals, and articles.
• Develop and implement strategies for individual donors and key groups to increase overall giving levels.
• Secure major gifts, special project support and planned gifts in accordance with the strategic plan and annual goals of the organization.

Manage and expand the organization’s major gifts and planned giving ministry. Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift and planned giving prospects. Works closely with the director of Community Relations to promote the mission and values of the Franciscan Sisters to the public, nurture the existing donor base and develop strategies to foster major and planned gifts.B. Major and Minor Tasks:
1. Knows and demonstrates the Franciscan Values while performing all job functions: respect, open communication, hospitality, and compassion. Demonstrates values with sisters, staff, volunteers, donors, and guests.
2. Upholds and fulfills mission and philosophy of Franciscan Sisters in all areas of development, communications, and public relations—written, spoken and throughout daily contacts on the job.
3. Participates as a member of the Community Relations Department team to accomplish quality, timely and cost-effective work, following CRD policies and procedures.
4. Writes articles for Our Journey magazine and content for newsletters and social media
5. Navigates the Donor Perfect database and works with other development staff to maintain accurate records.
6. Shares responsibilities for opening mail and processing donations.
7. Builds relationships with new and existing donors to increase donations.
8. Maintains ongoing relationships with donors/friends/family members of FSLF to identify new opportunities for giving, including online donors.
9. Oversees the Give to the Max yearly campaign.
10. Works with the Sister Judine Cassidy Scholarship Fund; presents the scholarship at the Little Falls Community High School scholarship ceremony; authors articles for sisters’ newsletter.
11. Develops and implements major gifts strategies in collaboration with CRD staff.
12. Develops an understanding of FSLF ministries, programs, initiatives and needs to engage and articulate FSLF mission to major donors.
13. Creates innovative, effective major gift proposals and appeals
14. In accordance with the strategic plan and annual goals of the organization, develops and implements strategies for individual donors and key groups to increase overall giving levels, particularly top donors giving $250 or more.
15. Secures major gifts, special project support and planned gifts
16. Develops and implements special efforts to re-engage lapsed donors.
17. Recognizes donors–privately and publicly–in Franciscan-appropriate ways.
18. Actively participates in and plans donor appreciation events.
19. Attends networking events through the Little Falls Chamber and other civic organizations.
20. Develops annual budget, as well as income and expense projections for the major gift program.
21. Fosters members of the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Society through correspondence, calls, and visits.
22. Calls donors on their prayer day (Donor of the Day).
23. Maintains permanent files and communicates with lawyers and personal representatives for wills and estate gifts, following legal protocols.
24. Prepares monthly report of planned giving and donor relations activity.
25. Attends workshops/conferences focusing on trends in planned giving and philanthropy.
26. Performs all other duties as assigned by the CRD director.
Qualifications and Experience Required:C. Education and Training:
1. Bachelor’s degree or significant experience in donor relations, development, administration, or related field.
2. At least 5 years of donor relations and fundraising experience in a nonprofit setting.
3. Proficient with MS Office software and Windows based PCs required.D. Position Requirements:
1. Confidentiality: Maintains strict confidentiality.
2. Knowledge and Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence in public speaking required. Demonstrated ability in working with diverse ages and financial means of donors and prospective donors.
3. Mental Application: Close attention to details and accuracy. Use of independent judgment following established guidelines/practices. Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, work with interruptions, and stay calm under pressure is necessary.
4. Worker Characteristics: High degree of accuracy required in performing required tasks. Outgoing personality and able to build relationships.E. Performance Requirements:
1. Physical Demands: Donor visitations, FSLF, church, civic and national organizational involvement requires driving ability and willingness to travel.
2. Aptitudes: Adept at screening calls and visitors. Requires good memory for detail and ability to concentrate on many things. Motor coordination is necessary to operate computer/office machines, driving a vehicle.
3. Hazards and Risks: Moderate degree of tension.
